Preparation First to Get Lucky in Ad Sales!
Are You Feeling Lucky?
Are you a skilled ad salesperson or just a lucky one? One might argue skill and luck are one in the same. There’s an old saying that luck is when preparation and opportunity come together. Skilled ad sales people make their own luck. Have you ever had a colleague that seems to always have good solid opportunities fall in their lap, while we really have to work hard and grind for it?
Maybe it will help to change your perspective. Sales don’t usually just fall out of the sky and into your lap. Think of sales as farming, you don’t plant a seed today and come back tomorrow looking for a bunch of big, red juicy tomatoes, do you? No, farming requires patience and persistence. Sow today and if you diligently and consistently water and nurture them you’ll be eating good very soon. If you had tended and nurtured last year’s contacts and leads they could be today’s beautiful garden.
Here are Some Tips for Tending and Nurturing Your Sales Crop;
- Stay on the radar
- Check in with old contacts frequently
- Rethink what no means
- Think outside of the box
Continue working hard and sowing those sales leads, and you may just find that you get luckier and luckier. Soon enough, your colleagues may even think that sales opportunities just fall into your lap- but as we all know, it takes hard work to get lucky in ad sales.
Keep in mind these famous words credited to Thomas Jefferson;
“I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.”
